What is the Pod Blast ?

NOTE: As of 11.25.2020 the Pod Blast Alerts have been temporarily suspended in response to the new COVID -19 restrictions on outdoor gatherings. We appreciate your understanding and expect to restart alerts again soon.

The Sound Action Pod Blast is a subscription-based alert system providing text notifications when whales are visiting Vashon and Maury Island.

The annual subscription starts on October 1st and ends on September 30th of the following year, even if you join at a later date.

The annual subscription fee is a mere $25 per year which helps to cover the cost of the software used for the alert system.  After you subscribe, you will receive alerts via text message when whales are in local Vashon waters along with details on anticipated times and places to view them from shore.

We have worked hard to keep the annual subscription fee low but if this expense is a financial burden please contact us at info@soundaction.org so we can get you on the alert list.

MASKS AND PHYSICAL DISTANCING REQUIRED!  An order from the secretary of health requires Washingtonians to wear face coverings in public spaces and shared spaces, both indoors and outdoors.

By subscribing to the Pod Blast, you are agreeing to wear a mask when you are on a beach with other people present and to maintain six feet of physical distance between yourself and other people who are not a member of your household. If you refuse to wear a mask, you will be removed from the alert system immediately.

THIS IS A SHORE BASED VIEWING PROGRAM. If you subscribe to Pod Blast you are agreeing that you will not, under any circumstances go out on a boat, vessel or personal watercraft of any kind, including a kayak or paddle board etc. Boats and personal watercraft in close proximity to whales are harmful and cause significant impact to foraging and transit. If you are found to be in violation of this condition you will be removed from the alert system immediately.
